All,

I am at a bit of a crossroads. I have a 15 year old Genesis that will need to be replaced soon. I have been borrowing a friends WSM to smoke ribs and chicken for guests. Do I buy a SF and scratch both itches or do I buy another genesis and a WSM?

Love it or hate it, my Genesis has been my daily driver. Can a SF replace this for when you want the usual quick fair of hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken steak or Salmon? For those that have kids, any complaints about the SF being all smoke all the time? Really struggling with determining if the SF can take the place of the Genesis As my daily driver. Can you share your thoughts?

I have both Weber gas and smokefire only used gas grill once and last 2 months cooked hamburgers last night at 300 Degrees drip tray underneath first 30 min. Turned temp to 380 moved burgers to open fire to brown best burgers and hot dogs I’ve ever had.

Every tool has its purpose and the more tools that you have, the better job you can do....

I keep having to explain that about the grills and the contents of the safe......

Granted this crew might be biased, it sounds like the SF is a suitable gas grill replacement. I wish Weber made it more clear that this is a replacement and not a compliment to a gas grill.

I have SmokeFire, A 10 year old Genesis, and WSM. I haven’t touched the WSM since I got the SmokeFire. I think the SmokeFire can take place of both WSM and Genesis. I’m keeping my Genesis as it’s handy for quick things. I added a set of Grillgrates so I sometimes use it to sear steaks after cooking lower temp on SmokeFire and for vegetables. If I could only have one I’d go with the SmokeFire though due to being able to do low and slow and high temp cooks. My Genesis has been a champ and feel like it has another 10 years of life.

I have all three, a three year old Summit 620, a six year old 22” WSM, and a month old EX4.

Each unit has a place, and while I could have purchased an EX6 to eliminate one of the other two, I prefer to have options: Summit for quick meals and steaks and large group feeds for chicken, burgers and dogs, WSM for large parties and big butt/ brisket smoking at our reunions, and the small er EX4 for it’s already proven convenience and unattended operation when just cooking for the two of us.

Since I do almost all of the cooking in our house, that translates into grilling/smoking/ baking outdoors virtually every day. Accordingly the one area where the jury is out is how convenient and efficient the ex4 will be during our Winters here in WNY and whether it will ever replace the Summit gasser for fast weeknight cooks.

Besides, I like my toys, especially those made by Weber.

I use my propane Q-320 for veggies, but I would have to force myself to use a kettle since I bought the SmokeFire.
I just bought a 26” for the hell of it but if I had to go to one, it would be the SF for sure!!

Have a new Summit 470 to compliment my ex-6. I feel the summit gives me more flexibility when cooking multiple items at different temps , but love my SF for the low and slows (about every 2 weeks).
