First impression Weber pellets not great

Since getting my EX6 a few months ago, I’ve been using it a ton. I mostly use pitboss pellets. There’s a store right near the house that carries them for $9.99 for a 20 pound bag. I’ve also used several bags of Traeger pellets. Despite what I’ve read about the larger diameter pellets causing issues with the SmokeFire I’ve never had a single hiccup from my smoker. It’s been 100%, till last night….

I made a trip to Lowe’s last week and they had tons of Weber products on clearance including pellets. I think they were somewhere around 13 bucks a bag. I grabbed two bags thinking that if it ran as good as it did with the wrong pellets it should be even better with the right ones. At about 10 hours into a butt cook yesterday (using the Weber pellets) I glanced at the Weber connect app and noticed that my smoker temp was about 20 degrees low and dropping fast.
For some reason the Weber pellets had bridged and there was a massive cavity under them. I stirred everything around and they started feeding again but then the smoker temp jumped up 100 degrees higher than the set point. It settled down after about 10 minutes. It’s probably a fluke but I’m not going to go out of my way to buy the Weber pellets again.

I am using pellets from Sams Club with no problems. $14.99 for 40 lb bag Weber is 20 lbs for $16.99.

I've had NO problems at all!

I am fairly new at pellet grilling, but love my smokefire

I did do the caster upgrade and find it rolls much better from the garage to driveway.

Lumberjack makes the Weber pellets ad well as Cabela's ....

Something I learnt with this thing a long time ago is that they are all different and their likes / dislikes can change in a heartbeat.
Continue to use what works for you but be prepared to adjust your way of thinking if necessary.

My first cook was with treager pellets…did NOT like flavor switched to pit boss no issues at all, now I use Weber, but in a pinch I would use pit boss again

I've run 6 or 8 bags of Weber without a problem, but found Lumberjack at a Rural King for $8.88/bag. Physically they look the same as the Weber and performed well. Their Hickory seemed stronger to me, but it could've been age. I feel like I read elsewhere on here that Weber and LJ come from the same maker.... Glad your SF is working well for you.

I had my first issue with pellets last weekend at the end of my brisket cook. The pellets somehow blocked the glow plug and wouldn’t allow new ones to drop to burn. The temp kept dropping. When I took it apart I found what looked like a tootsie roll sized jamb of pellet dust blocking the glow plug. I have only used Weber Pellets so I’m not sure what caused the issue in the first place.

I have only used Weber pellets and can say I have had no problems until my last cook. The exact same thing happened. Exactly, save for the quick increase in temp caused a grease fire. I'm interested in other pellets but also had previously heard they caused auger issues. Glad to hear there are other options for pellets in the future.

When i was still using my EX6 i tried Lumberjack and B&B. I thought those created alot more ash than the weber pellets. I had falling and some bridging with all pellets i tried.

I mostly use B&B Pellets. All varieties at Academy for $9.99…20 lb bags
