Sad News. After several weeks of successful cooking on my EX4, this past weekend I suffered an E3 error, Grill Flame Out. I followed the solution provided by the manual and started it up. Nothing. The motor and fan worked for about 3 minutes, the Glow Plug ignited for that time and then the motor stopped and the Glow Plug went out. The fan kept working at reduced rate. I left it on for 15 minuted with no change. Unplugged the EX4, cleaned out the pellets and reset the controller to factory settings, upgraded the software with the App and tried again. Exact same thing. Started up for a few minutes and then it stopped working as before. I have sent an email to Weber support, but no response yet. Any ideas?

Clean out your pellet chute. Look inside and check the back of your auger (inside the chute - the very last section) for compressed pellets where the cotter pin connects the auger to the motor. If any then chip them away with a screwdriver and see if that helps. Below is what I found when I pulled mine out to replace.

I had that same problem this past weekend. Contact Weber customer service and tell them to send you the new welded one piece auger shoot. It’s supposed to fix all those issues. It eliminates that old system completely. Read some good reviews about it on here. Also watched Harry Soo’s video that was uploaded on the forum somewhere. Do a search on here and you can see the new system. Mine shipped today.

Thanks for the replies. I will definitely contact Weber Support and report back. Seems weird that dust in the auger would cause the system to shut down. Must be some sort of fail safe mechanism. I will give it a try. Thanks again.

Yep that's the fix. Do the above to diagnose.

I received the flame out message countless times. Call weber and get them to ship you a new auger unit. It's a pretty extensive install, so I had them send a service tech to do the work. A new BBQ at this price point should just work.. right??!!

Since the replacement, it's worked very well. Consistently holds between 200 and 600. Cleaning is pretty easy. I use a shopvac every now and then for ash clean up.

I finally feel like this grill is working like I thought it would after a really rough start.

Good to know, I haven’t installed mine yet.
