I've had pellet grills for years. Traegers, Pit boss. I picked up a Smokefire EX6 (gen 1 I think) new for $50. I'm planing on replacing my PitBoss.
Mods Im thinking about
1- I've used a Message Motor in a hopper before to balance pellet cavitation. Looks that a major need for Smokefires.
2-I'm considering removing the Flavor bars and making a drip Tray with two pipe / drains to go into the drain holes on the bottom. The idea of just allowing all that grease to drain on the bottom of the barrel seems like a disaster. I get I wont be using this for high temp sears or burgers. I have other equipment for that, so this would be for smoking.
3-On my last two Smokers I converted them to PLC controls with PID loop temp control. One of the features I created was monitoring the temps and re igniting the hot rod if i detected a flame out. Any other features you think I should look into on the control side?
Any other mods that I should consider for this thing.
Thanks in Advance
Zack
