Grill
Smoke fire II
Weekend smoker here, since early summer. I am on my third Weber probe. Today probe read 91 degrees before I fired up the grill. It had only been used three or four times. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

Hard to say with almost no info but here I go.

Do not kink the cables.

Route cables through the notch in the top right hand corner of the lid adjacent to the hinge mechanism.

Do not submerge the cables in water to clean. I use Clorox wipes to clean mine. Clean the probe thoroughly and wipe down the braided wire. If the wire doesn’t come fully clean it is if no consequence.

Contact Weber for a new probe if it fails prematurely

I am always a proponent of having an extra probe on hand for just these sort of situations.

Thanks. I may have kinked the cable; I did not read the instructions on threading through the notch until today.

Yup, I clean mine the same way. Clorox wipes and you're good to go....

The original two that came with my SF died/failed. I am being a bit more cautious and gentle with the two they sent me.

I have 3 probes, the one that came with my gen 1, a second meat probe and an ambient probe I bought. No problems with any. I store them on the reels they are sold with. The reels also snap/ interlock together to help keep them all in one place when not in use. I don’t use them on every cook by any means.

I have 3 meat probes and 2 ambient probes that are still going strong after 6 years (I haven't opened the one that came with the SF yet but the others are the same).
Don't kink the cord or get them wet and they will last a while.
