Remote monitoring

Anyone figured out how to remotely monitor their grill? As in, I've got something going low and slow, but I have to leave to <do something>. Other people are at home and would presumably notice if the thing began flaming uncontrollably, but wouldn't notice if a target temperature was hit or the grill flamed out. I would like to get alerts that "hey you lost temperature" or whatever, so I can call home and have them stir the pellets, power cycle, pull the meat, whatever.

There was nothing to figure out for me.. It just works.

Well, you opened a big bucket. First, is your grill connected to the home WiFi? You may have to use in 2.4 g connection. Second, is the app on your phone and have you allowed the app to use cellular data? Easy questions but we have to start somewhere.

And if you can get anyone at home to do anything, you are already a couple of steps ahead.

I did this, leave and someone at home thing…not good. No one at the house, paid attention, and somehow it blew a fuse. And no one noticed to i got home.

@Goneincognito : it just worked? You were able to go over the cell network and get to your grill when not at your house? When I tried it didn't work. Since you said it worked, I tried turning off my phone's WiFi/BT and it seemed to work. Hmmm... maybe I won't have to do anything. I'll be gone towards the beginning of the cook, so if it goes out, it won't be the end of the world.

If that's what you did, that would indicate that the SF is still BT connected. When you get out of range of BT is when either your wifi will kick into a hotspot, or connect with cell service

The app has the name of my WiFi listed in it under Device Settings. (Has both WiFi and BT icons) And the device has the WiFi symbol on it. I don't know what it had the other day. I've got a brisket going, but have to run out, so I'll try it in a bit and see what happens.

You can also try by turning Bluetooth and WiFi off on your phone. If you can still connect to the grill should work from away. I’ve checked and even changed temps while running quick errand.

Well, I don't know why it didn't work before, because it worked today. Maybe the Weber services were down or something.

Mine is almost always on Wi-Fi because the Bluetooth range does not get to the kitchen or down to my office in the basement

Yes.. I can leave home and monitor on my phone.

Change temps, timers, alarm set points and you can even perform a remote shut down

You can the pair grill with only ONE device. Once paired you will ONLY use that same device...

See, that's a bit annoying. It'd be nice to be able to use my iPad or my phone to monitor. But I guess if they are requiring BT to pair, that makes it complicated to share the connection.
