Searwood 600 XL
Hi,

I'm a total Searwood newbie. I brought one recently and have been able to use it twice for a couple of quick BBQs before it has stopped working.

When I turn it on, everything seems fine and after selecting a temp I can hear the thing come to life (The fan starts spinning etc), but after a few seconds the control unit restarts itself. Hopefully if I've done it right, there is a video attached to this message showing the issue.

I contacted Weber who have so far taken a week and a half to tell me nothing useful (I've reinstalled the app, reset the control unit etc).

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Hi Yes, I had a control panel go bad just after a month. The ACE Hardware where I bought it was great! They picked up my grill, got the part from Weber, installed it and brought it back. No problem since.

I am trying to get my Searwood 600 to come on. In has power but nothing on screen

Thanks for the response. So far Weber have been pretty slow to deal with.

Initially they came back quite quickly and said to try resetting it and reinstalling the app etc. But after that I've been getting frustrated at the lack of response and since mid last week it has been escalated to their 'US connect' team. I just want to get smoking and it is so frustrating!

Makes me concerned that any little fault with the Searwood renders it useless.

Are you able to get it to connect to your phone??

Have you tried to reset? Plug it in whilst holding the button with three lines on it and then toggle to yes and press the dial.

In the video, I noticed that the only icon lit was Bluetooth. I believe that Bluetooth is the first step to connecting via WiFi.
Bluetooth reads the food temp sensors, and the grill type Searwood 600 must be selected in the app. In other words, the WiFi is the control; that app is a PIA & clunky, but it works.

One thing I want to mention, the other day I unplugged the grill as it was cooking.
*E10 after I reconnected the power.*
A timer showed up, and a countdown started.
That was a soft shutdown.
Completed, WiFi reconnected, the grill fired up, and completed the cook.

Thanks Pep but I believe Wifi is optional as a means of connection. I'm pretty sure it was an optional step in adding the Searwood to the app.

I was doing some testing yesterday and at one point disconnected the grill from the app and reset it. I was able to start the grill without connecting it to the app (Although in my case it just shuts down as per the video). One would think if the app was a pre-requisite to firing it up, that it would come up with an error code to let you know it wasn't connected..

You have the app, did you upgrade the firmware? "if app was a pre-requisite to firing it up, that it would come up with an error code"

The grill may not be that smart. As of now you cannot get past the burn-in, correct? The very first step.
What is the problem with using the WiFi? After all , the grill was designed the be used that way. Not getting anywhere now right?

Here, open the app, find a recipe and try to follow the prompts to cook

Hi Pep,

Yes I have the app and yes I upgraded the firmware. I also checked that the firmware was up to date in the setting menu.

""if app was a pre-requisite to firing it up, that it would come up with an error code" The grill may not be that smart." I agree with you on that entirely! However, one would think that Weber would be better than that.

I got past the burn-in and it worked for the first 2 times (I had a couple of small BBQs to get the feel for it before going on to trying to smoke low and slow).

No problem using WiFi and not sure why it isn't showing as connected in that video. It was one of many occasions the grill didn't start up and I was trying a different combination of things to get it to work, so most probably the video I shared was on an occasion where I had gone through the setup process and skipped Wifi.
