Second Generation EX4

My original EX4, purchased over a year ago, was unreliable due to many reasons. Last month Weber decided to issue me a new unit, a second generation model of the EX4. It recently arrived and have not had the chance to assemble it yet due to cold weather. Has anyone been in this situation? Is the second generation any better than the original?

I bought a EX6 Gen 2 in July, had so many issues. Weber sent me a replacement a few weeks ago and so far so good

Different auger assembly and steaper incline in the hopper are the only things changed.

Did Weber ever send these parts out for the old one (you woud have needed to initiate this).

The Gen2 has been around for over a year now. Even longer if you count the grills that had those replacement parts sent out at the users request.

Weber did you right! I love my EX4… I had mine assembled where I bought it and delivered ready for burn in.

Got my EX4 in July no major problems so far. Used it hard for several months while remodeling our kitchen. Keep an eye on the pellet hopper for high temp cooks. As with anything there is learning curve.

How did you know you're old one was gen 1? I am wondering what I have.

You have a new auger chute? If so it don’t matter.

I am not sure how to tell the difference in the 2 augers? I did check my part number and from another post confirms gen2. I have had it since May 2021 and have had no issues.

Does it have the increased incline piece in the pellet hopper?

Yeah I never installed mine with the retrofit kit. Just the new welded auger assembly and removal of the wire finger guard. It is a tell tale sign though of a gen 2 unless someone at a store installed the ramp before the sale. Really the welded auger is the only real change isn’t it?

And the bolt that replaced the cotter pin.
