Size EX4 vs EX6

Planning to purchase a smokefire in a couple months as long as most of the key issues are solved.

I am debating between the size of EX4 vs EX6. I know the measured dimensions of each, but interested in real world usage. Do any EX4 users regret the purchase and wish they has gone with the bigger one? Can you fit a medium sized turkey on the EX4? Number of racks of ribs, brisket, etc.

I know the price difference isn't huge, but typically I would be cooking for family of 4 (with leftovers of course) with only the occasional (once or twice a year) cooks for 10-12 people. Don't want to overbuy the size since I need to heat the full volume each time I cook.

Thoughts based on peoples experiences so far?

I had an offset about the exact same size as the EX4. At that time it was a family of about 2.5 but I always cooked for an army. I had NO issues with a cooker that size for pretty much anything unless I wanted a zillion ribs. Even then with some rib racks it was good to go! I bought the EX6 because I now have 3 dragons....Little Girls and still cook for an Army +1 or +2, people that work for us etc and I wanted to be ready for what ever life throws at me.

If the a EX4 works for you then I would say go for it! You have some great benefits going with the smaller model too such as probably faster heat up times, the ability to use less pellets as your heating a smaller space and the fact your Left to Right temp should be better than the EX6 due to them having the exact same PID and Burn pot system but the EX6 has a 6" more of space from the burn pot on each side to deal with.

I have the ex6, I’d rather have the room if I need it. I am 100% happy I jumped in NOW!I had the minor issues you read on this site and you work around it. I push the pellets down because they dont feed right(they already have a fix and are sending me the part) I read about grease fires on long cooks(got some cheap tin pans and put under the meat) no problems after 12 cooks, some temp fluctuations when you set a temp(they are sending me the updated auger and 2 bags of pellets for my trouble*never has it ruined a cook*) the food you pull off has the most amazing flavor and the grill is a blast to play with! I was regretting buying the grill after I read all the negative feedback, but I am super happy to be playing with my new toy and feel comfortable Weber has made a huge investment also getting into this market and is standing behind their product to make us happy with our purchase.

Don't have one yet, but when I saw them set up side by side at Ace Hardware, the size difference is huge. Almost seems like a waste to not go bigger for $200. But, I will only really need that size once or twice a year.

You could have not said it better. I fixed my pellet feed issue with a couple of mods but I like the Weber solution better though you do loose a couple of pounds of fuel. 20lbs should be more than enough though and what the competition has anyways. Yes, Weber is definitely working to take care of every issue that all of us are having (except that Dang App but I get it, they are hardware guys and their Software vendor June that I am sure they paid an arm, leg and a few smoked briskets for better come through quick because it is hurting both their brands )and overall they have totally handled me with care. My Ash box literally melted the paint off and yet I am sticking with it. There is nothing else IMHO like it on the market. My Girl Grill goes back to Weber on Thursday and my new Grill will hopefully be here soon so I can get back to Grilling!

I’m happy with my EX4 with my family of four. Though my boys are younger so in a few years I might regret not having the extra room . I would say it depends on how much you like to cook at one time. For me I’m usually just cooking for a meal plus some leftovers and I figured I can squeeze in more if having a large group by using rib racks or putting brisket over some wood so it’s not as wide. If you like to do larger cooks I’d say go ahead and spend the extra to get the big one so you don’t regret it. I’ve yet to need more space than my EX4 so far though. I feel like the EX4 might be little more even temp from what I’ve seen posted but can’t say for sure. Some of the temp tests may not have let the grill even out long enough. I’d read up on the issues some have had so you know what to look for in case you run into them or you don’t feel comfortable with the possibility of them.
