Smokefire Auger - Rev F

Thought I'd share this post I saw on Facebook showing different revision of the SmokeFire auger. Rev D and Rev F. No one seems to know what the difference is, however the new one (Rev F) seemed to fixed the issue the owner was having with high temps. The new one has no problem hitting 600 degrees. Glad to see Weber making progress!

Saw this posted by a person on Reddit so it’s second hand.
“What Weber told me is that to get a tight seal of hopper and auger requires machine assembly. Some bbqs were hand assemble to meet delivery dates. New smoke fires will all have machine assembled hopper+auger.” This apparently was allowing smoke and ash to get to the motor and cause it to behave erratically. I asked Weber what the difference was between Rev D and F but the didn’t answer and asked me for a picture of my auger tube gasket in the hopper. I heard back from Weber and they said my gasket is the proper one and shouldn’t need replacement. My auger assembly is Rev D. Here’s the photo I sent.

LOL. Great marketing!!! Greater Spin!! I think they are totally being honest. They probably are identical. I think it comes down to the ASSEMBLY of the auger assembly. Some are saying the Auger issues are due to being hand assembled vs. machine assembled and heat/debris may be entering the internals of the auger and creating issues..

I swapped out mine with the F and it didn’t make a damn bit of difference. I cannot sniff anywhere still 600 still. Get barley reach 500. Support told me that an update is coming soon and it should take care of my issue.

Thats pretty disheartening news. I say that because regardless of the revisions of the auger or the assembly types of the auger there are people that are already hitting 600 degrees without issue with the exact same software that everyone has regardless of getting to temp or not. If it is not a hardware issue (like the auger assembly) then the only thing left would be a quality control issue since the only constant we all have in this experiment is the same version of the software (if updated correctly......which most everyone seems to be doing....)

This is crazy. My EX4 always reaches 600. Clearly they have a production problem..

I’ve tried to get Weber to send me a Rev F auger but I haven’t had any problems they think could be related to an auger issue.
They did mention taking the picture of the auger, what exactly am i looking for?

They had me do that too. For me they wanted a picture down the hopper into the auger so could see the gasket. It was to determine if was assemble by machine or by hand. They told me no need to replace a Rev D auger that was machine assembled.

My EX6 ran like a Cadillac until the last software update. It would never reach the set temp, regardless of what that temp was.
I called Weber and they overnighted an auger and chute assembly. I installed it today (I had a D now an F) and it seems like she’s her old self again. It got to 600 in just over 12 minutes. I shut it down and fired it back up to 200. I varied the set temps and it quickly rose to and held the temp every time.
I’ve cooked a lot of meat on this thing and have yet to have a bad result.
I’m also extremely impressed by the customer service experience I had. Thank you Weber!

Something to hope for. I’m thinking my rev f auger is defective. It was making a grinding on a couple of cooks. It might have been the pellets being ground to powder but my rev d never did that. Anybody notice a straight cotter pin at the end of the auger below the hopper? Pellets can get in there and it might be breaking them into smaller pieces. Shouldnt that pin be bent flat parallel to the auger instead of sticking straight out?
