I just got off the phone with weber. I explained my problems . Pellet not feeding so the their sending the modified ramp. Also mine is very slow to heat up 27 min. To reach 225. So their sending a new auger assembly. They were very friendly and only a min or so wat on the phone. Hopefully this will solvensure my issues. I will let you know when the new parts arrive, get installed and I test it out. I did ask about the shelf I saw on a video I saw and he couldn't commit on availability but is sure there's room under the cover. We'll see

Hey there. Had an issue Sunday with the grill not heating up at all. Seemed the pellets were not feeding the auger. The only thing we figured out is that the pellets are not all uniform in size. Some are over two inches in length. We think that if a perfect storm happens and enough of these longer pellets get to the opening, it blocks the hole so no pellets can feed into the auger. My buddy pushed down the pellets where the hole is and all of the sudden the mound all went down into the void. After that, it seemed to heat OK.
I think they're all slow to heat. Let us know if the ramp mod works. Finally they are responding to issues.

Hopefully that solves your issues. Those fixes seemed to have helped some of the people I’ve seen posting at least.

Do you still have the finger guard installed? I know Weber would not recommend it but but many people have removed it and appears to have helped with pellets bridging. If you do remove it be sure to put the three screws back in as they connect to the auger chute.

I am not going to make any mod's for a while. I'm kinda' taking a wait and see approach cuz I really want this grill to work. Good idea though. I haven't seen that idea yet. If it becomes too much of a problem, trust me, I will be removing it. Thanks for the info.

Yeah good idea to use it as is before modding anything to get a feel for it.

That's probably a good idea, because you really need to know if the Weber hopper modification works on the stock grill. Plus I don't think Weber would be too happy that people are bypassing their "lawyer" guard in order make the hopper work.

My hopper mod will be arriving today and just got a fedx note my new auger assembly will be here tomorrow. Very fast service. I hope this fixes everything.

Received my new auger assembly and hopper ramp but it's raining so maybe I'll get it installed tomorrow.

This was a new experience, smoker had been running at 250 for about 3 hours when the temp started to drop. It went all the way down to 70 and I saw the white smoke coming out from the back and around the top. I opened the lid, probably not a good idea, that's the first picture. No error code so I put it into shut down mode. Must of been a lot of unburned pellets and a few smoldering because when the fan came on there were flames everywhere, second picture.

I spoke with Weber, they said to clean out the entire smoker and hopper and try it again. This was the first time I didn't use Weber pellets, was using Pit Boss form Lowe's, seemed to have a lot of dust.

Could the dust or Pit Boss pellets be the problem ?

BE CAREFUL! I will tell you why after I reply to your post....

What probably happened is the PID started dumping pellets to account for the temperature drop. The white smoke is means there is a lot of combustables, moisture, etc. When you opened the lid you gave your smoldering fire the extra oxygen it needed to ignite.

The reason I said be careful I was at an outing one time and the person doing the cooking on a pellet smoker (could happen to any grill) started the smoker with the lid open like the manufacturer instructs and the grill never ignited and instead created huge plumes and rolling clouds of white and some thick black smoke. The cook though it would be fun to run his hand through it. I told him twice what was happening but he did not listen. BOOM.....all of that ignited in a flash fireball. Burned all the hair off his hand, arm an his eyebrow.
