SmokeFire EX4
Hi all,

doing ribs today. I have found that the SmokeFire is great if you stay on top of the pellet void. I set a timer, every 45 minutes I go outsde and stir the pellets, it’s ok if you are doing ribs..but a 18 hour. Brisket can be problematic…anybody got a better solution

Remove the wire guard and fill the bin it will last hours at 225-250.

I have found that even with the wire gaurd removed, it still looks like it might run out. I haven’t had it happen yet…but. I just think it’s part of it to stir every once in awhile. I might be a little ocd about it though. If I do over night. I just wake every couple, few hours to check it…

Bbqking your not alone on that. For brisket and long cooks I get up or just stay up all night.

It solves it for at least 8 hours if you are cooking at low temps. Like you said, after a certain amount of time everyone that is prudent will check their hopper regardless of brand. No reason to stay awake all night however.

Check this link to one of my older posts. Maybe you missed it

Based on my rookie mistake, not so sure the void is as much of an issue as many of us think it is. Not sure if the higher temps thus faster feed would be any different from a low and slow cook, but my mistake ran the hopper practically empty before I realized it.

Low and slow did not seem to have a problem but anytime I was burning at a higher temperature it was subject to bridging. I think I did fix it though....I had them come pick it up....no more issues except I have no grill and Weber has the grill and my money 5 weeks after I told them to come get it.

Sorry to hear this. The Smokefire is an amazing smoker. Hopefully you will have better luck with your next one.

I used some 5/4 decking scraps and put them under the casters on the right Grill is about a half bubble off level (kind of like me) I use them on overnight slow cook. Do not know if it helps but I feel more comfortable using them. I have did 4 overnight cooks and have had no problems. I did remove the finger guard. I use pellets from Sams Club.

Thanks for joining the group to share that.
Do you plan on getting another SmokeFire?

I am planning on waiting for resolution and to see if they do another redesign. They are so close!
You will be waiting a while. They aren't doing a new version any time soon.
Anything they do will be tweaking parts like they did with the so called "Gen2"
I think they are pretty much there. Not denying there are issues but people just wanted it to be something it's not and that has them pissed.
