The ones that come with are coated steel. There are heavier stainless steel ones and enamel coated cast iron ones too.Quick question. Are there other grates available for the EX4 other then the stainless steel ones that come with the grill. If so has anyone tried them
They are the same grates used in Weber gas grills. Used by thousands and thousands of people.Any one tried the enameled iron grates.
JpsBBQ: For the BGE - which option did you buy - I'm looking for a B'day gift for my BiL who tends to load up his BGE with everything but really needs something on the 'side' to sear the protein.I’m a huge fan of grill grates as well. I have two sets I’ve used on other pellet grills and a BGE. The Smokefire is so awesome at searing that I’ve never even used them on the Smokefire. They do as advertised. I would not want them for everyday bbqing though. I have never removed my cooking grids from the cookers. I always just place them over the stock or standard cooking grids.
They make them specifically for the Egg. Just need the size and decide if you want 1/2 set or whole set. They are cast iron with porcelain coating. They will cook like cast iron without the rust and maintenance. Clean up easily. All the Weber cast iron accessories are porcelain coated. They seem to hold up incredibly well. I’m a huge fan of porcelain coated cast iron cookware too.What are the advantages of the porcelain grates.
That's correct. The grates from the Spirit 300 series fit the Smokefire.I am using the cast iron grates from an E300 I believe.
