Grill
SmokeFire EX4
My grill is almost 18 months old and the metal rails inside that keep the bars in place are rusting/corroding away.

Anyone else have this happen?

I looked on the spare parts page and do not see them listed for ordering.

Covered under warranty.
Contact Weber.
You will not see them on the spare parts page because there is not a SF out there that is out of warranty.

As for anyone else having it happen to them....
I personally haven't had it happen (2 years in and around 400 cooks) but I have seen other people posting about it here and other places.

Mine went to pot about six months ago. Weber replaced them.

Might want to check your fire pot grate and the pellet slide while you are contacting them. These parts all seems to fall apart at the same time. When I did this, they also sent new flavorizer bars and the fire pot hood.

My slide is pretty much pristine but the bottom of my pot has probably seen better days. Not nearly as bad as the rails but definitely showing wear.

They tried to tell me it was because I didn't clean my grill. I pushed back and they sent me a new rail.

I'm at the point now where I honestly believe that is part if the issue.
I am not denying there are probably other things also at play though.

As of tomorrow, I will have had my EX4 for 2 years and have used it at least 4-5 times a week. Most of those at high heat.
I clean between each cook and the internals are like the day I got it (minus the shine).

I think there is little or no doubt about that. Having said that, I would never use my pellet grills if I felt compelled to clean them in that manner or frequency. No way. That would remove almost all the joy for me personally. I would rather buy the parts every couple years. I do think that particular part is built a bit flimsy. They could for instance be SS and a gauge that would last for a decade regardless of the use. The combusted pellet residue is highly caustic and it is absolutely ridiculous for any manufacturer to believe that even a small fraction of consumers would ever behave in the most excellent manner as you choose. I would say somewhere between 99 - 99.99% do not act that responsibly. 😁

Agreed...
I use pans for the messier cooks so cleanup is literally just hit the grates with a brush, clean the burn pot and get the ash out.
Takes less than 5min to do.
If I didn't use pans it would be a pain and probably wouldn't do it as much.

I definitely do not and would not ever use pans when grilling. It’s antithetical to the process. I do a ton of grilling on the smokefire and I do believe this is a major factor in the deterioration.

I want to be absolutely clear, I am overwhelmingly pleased with the grill and believe it’s the most versatile and best value in the pellet grill market. I’m just calling balls and strikes. It’s flat out awesome!

Those flimsy ass parts fell apart because Weber didn’t do a great job calculating what 600 degree cooks would do to them.
They should have been thicker and made of stainless steel.
Mine completely rotted away and I keep my grill clean in a very moderate climate.

Yeah, I have to agree. They need to make them similar material and weight to the flavorizor bars. 👍🏻
