EX6 Major Problems

AMMD = Age Related Macular Degeneration, which I mentioned earlier in thsi thred. If you van't see the slots in the screws, the small holes that they fit into, or get down on your knees to get at them, then it's not likely that you'd consider this "small stuff".
You sound pretty combative. I never meant to make light of an ailment. Sorry if that’s how you took it.
I would just say that regardless of what unit you’d might choose, there is always some level of disassembly and reassembly required as part of maintenance. If you have someone around to help with that part occasionally, that would probably do it.
Good luck to you in your journey.

Not all combative, and had no intention of being seen that way. I had explained my trepidation, WRT the SF, due to my disabilities, in my first response to this thread. Perhaps you missed that post.

Final Update
Replacement parts (controller, power supply board, auger, welded chute and glow plug) arrived yesterday. Weber recommended replacing everything but being obstinate I decided I'd replace individual parts and test each one.

Replacement controller made no difference but replacing the power supply board fixed the problem. Grill heated up to 550F (although it took a little time) and held steady at 250, 400, 500 and 550.

Which means I have a spare chute, auger and glow plug just in case any of them ever go wrong.

Weber also threw a bag of pellets in to the box to say sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. Appreciate it.

Addick9574,

Your troubles read like a duplicate of the issues I've been having. I purchased my EX6 back in Feb 2020 just before all of the quarantine started. We had anticipated having family over for BBQ's this year, but no. Big gatherings discouraged.

I started up the SF just 2x before I started having troubles and smoked up some babyback ribs, once in the spring and another beginning of summer. They were excellent.

Still no family gatherings until the middle of Oct, I started up some ribs and once everything was rolling, headed off on a errand into the city. Came back 4 hrs later and the smoker has stopped at some point after I left. The Display read, Error Code 3. ???? I had no idea what had caused the trouble. Wind maybe ? A storm front was moving in. I shut down the smoker and finished the ribs in the oven. when I cleaned up afterward, nothing looked out of place. I figured it was the wind.

Two days before Thanksgiving we've brined a turkey and have it on the smoker. After about 90 minutes, it is losing temp and up pops error code 3 again. I do a shut down. Wait. Power Off. Power On. Reset the temp. It starts up like a champ, begins heating up, gets to about 160* and starts losing temp again. Error code 3. ??? No wind, it is cold outside, mid-30's. That shouldn't stop it. One more time. Same results. The wife and I look at each other and take the turkey into the house to try and cook it in the oven.

The turkey turned out poor. An unfortunate waste. And while the turkey was in the oven attempting to finish cooking, I'm checking all things in the smoker. Pellets are feeding great. Good fire in the burn cup, temp comes up and then. . . . . and then it errors out; Error Code 3. I was thinking a bad sensor. I appreciate the time you took to post your troubleshooting and resolution. It helps to have some information handy and that you had a resolution.

I have time to call customer service this coming week and see what we can figure out. It was very bad timing to have something fail and the smoker become non-functional when it did.

Never had that code,
Make sure you have the new auger and updated firmware!

You did not mention it, but there have been several software and firmware updates released by Weber since you originally purchased your grill.

If not, The first thing I would try would be to update and download the latest Weber Connect app to your phone from the App Store. (Android = 9.10 and iOS 9.14 )

Second, pair you phone to the powered up grill via Bluetooth and leave it next to the grill for an extended period of time ( at least 30 minutes) then power down your grill, unplug, plug back in and turn on again...

Third, pair your phone with the grill again and check the settings to see which software and firmware versions you are running, (Firmware = 4042, and software = 2491 are the latest)

Detailed instructions are on-line at Weber.com, and this should resolve what sounds like a software glitch... aka “ A failure to communicate”🤓

Next remove the safety finger guard from the hopper.

Finally, assuming you are registered with Weber and did not receive one, contact Weber to request a break one-piece welded auger assembly.
