How many pork butts on an EX6?

I might be called upon to cook the pork butts for pulled pork for a graduation party for my eldest and 3 of her friends. How many do y'all think the EX6 would cook at once? I'm thinking 7 pretty easily (3 on top and 4 on the main grates). I've room for 8, but I'm not sure that stock top shelf would hold the 40-50lbs. Anyone ever done that many?

I've not been told how many need to be cooked, but that would be pretty epic to get 7 on there. As long as they aren't touching, they should all smoke pretty well, I would think.

You could fit 6 on the main grate pretty easily.

I never use the top rack but would imagine 3 would fit without much fuss as long as they clear the top of the chamber.

Funny how different folks do different things. I almost always utilize the top rack for low temp cooks. I just like to move the protein away from the radiant heat source and I can use foil pans if desired to completely eliminate cleanup.

I cooked 4 at the same time on the EX4 (it was a charity event). All in the lower grates/shelf. It wouldn't fit out the top shelf, because those butts were with bones. If you get boneless (like the ones Costco sells) , you might be able to fit them in the top rack.
I think you can fit 6 butts (with skin and bones) in the bottom shelf, and 2-3 skinless, boneless on the top rack. I would definitely leave the skin on and cook it skin down. That was the best part after all.

Those almost look like picnic roasts as opposed to Boston butt cuts. The Boston butt cut has a single flat blade bone in it and I would think, would easily fit on the upper rack. The picnics usually have the shoulder bone and femur? Both cuts are from the same general region of the shoulder but with slightly different muscles and connective tissues. Those are some fatties!

Hard to say for me. I just figured if one was a picnic they all might be picnic. They are very fat for Butts.

I doubt I can get a custom top rack in time. The party is in a month or so.

That picture above is on the EX4, not EX6. You can fit 6 butts/shoulders on your EX6.

Six on the bottom rack. I've had three on the top (none on the bottom). I worry 4 would be too many for the stock rack (and walls).

So I should be able to get nine on there at once pretty easily.

Sweet. That’s the kind of information I was hoping for. Holds ten (look at the sag in the top rack!) but takes longer. Which makes sense.
