When I was researching pellet grills, one of the plusses for the GMG's was that they run on 12v.
I thought that would be a good idea when the power goes out. They even come with a cord with battery clips. IIRC.
Anyone thought of how to run the Smoke Fire with 12v inverted power? How much power is needed, how it could work etc.?

When the SHTF and society collapses, I'll be cooking ribs.

Somebody please check me on this but according to the SmokeFire EX4 manual (page 3) it needs 85W @ 110-127 VAC. That is well within the capabilities of very reasonably priced DC inverters available, and I would think represent a minimal draw on a standard auto battery. I haven't tried this, but your post has encouraged me to try. My Chrysler minivan has an inverter built in and I may just try it out as I too have wondered about how to cook if/when the power goes out. (Something I never worried about with my Genesis).

Great info. Thanks for sharing.

The only thing I'm worried about is the zombies coming for BBQ!
