Weber SmokeFire $200 Price Drop

I sent an email to Weber on Thursday asking them if they intended to do anything for all the folks that pre-ordered, paid full price and worked with them through all the issues.

Please let us know how they respond.. I would love to receive that $200 for beta testing since day 1.

I’m guessing the tremendous success of the Masterbuilt gravity feed line has a lot to do with this. Now if only Weber would build one of those......

I suspect longevity issues with that one. We shall see, but there are reports
In the interwebs of the hoppers failing. No personal experience from me though.

I was ready to buy the SmokeFire in January. While waiting for the roll-out and local availability I was reading and researching Pellet Grills in general. I had basically convinced myself that the SmokeFire was going to be my first pellet grill. after the debut, all I saw or read about, were the issues that some were having. I knew that the issues would be worked out, because it is Weber, but I did not want to deal with the possibilities of issues along with being a first time pellet grill owner. With this sale, I may should have waited, but I changed lanes in Late February, and bought a Rec Tec 700. I still really do like the SmokeFire design and appearance. I commend all of you that stuck with it through the growing pains, I do not know that I could have done it. I will say, that I am now a Pellet Grill convert. I have gone through 180 Lbs of pellets (Lumberjack Supreme Blend) and have produced the most amazing food with such good smoke flavor and color I could not be happier. I may end up with a SmokeFire yet, it just will not be my first. I am certain that the SmokeFire will produce just as amazing results as my Rec Tec, (hope to learn for myself someday) as I take NO credit for the food that comes off of the grill, it is the design, engineering, and choice of pellets that makes the magic happen.

I've heard good things about that grill, but the problems with the WSF are in no way universal. I've owned mine since February, probably close to 500lbs of pellets through it and mine just consistently puts out amazing food :)

DudeMC, If I were choosing today, with the obvious issues worked out, and the sale, I would choose the SmokeFire, but not sorry for skipping the possible problems while learning a great cooking method.

Yeah, I’m not trying to convince anyone. Just sharing my personal experience. I’ve used all levels of Traeger, Memphis and a couple others. I have appreciation for all of them in certain respects. I also have fiddled with MAK and they are a great unit as well. I really like the smokefire. That said, while I had some challenges, they don’t appear to be anywhere near the stress you’ve had. I‘m confident they will refund your grill. I know it’s not a help to you personally, but remember that this COVID thing hi right when the grill went out. These customer support people are trying to work the hotlines from home. In fact, Illinois shut down Weber for a month or so. Real bad timing on top of a really ill advised launch. Good luck!
I took a step back last night after reflecting on your optimism...called Weber a few minutes ago to follow up on my issues and got the message to the affect to busy to answer your call, call back later or leave a message and we will return you call...can’t make this stuff up, obviously the only other thing that’s a bust other than my SF is their commitment to customer service or lack there of!

Is there a solid breakdown anywhere of what improvements were made? I'm in the market for a grill, and have been for a while. I was all for the SF, until I saw the underwhelming original reviews, grease fire issues, and pellet bridging, and it put me back searching. I still have interest in the SF EX6, especially with the current discount, but am also looking at a Rec Tec 700, and Traeger Ironwood (and maybe the Campchef Woodwind - seems to have good reviews, though seems a bit more cheaply manufactured).

All good choices.
The grease fire issue is a total red herring. Any pellet grill or grill for that matter can have a grease fire if you cook a bunch of grease laden food and immediately raise the temp above 400. You will see this as a result across the board. Animal fat combusts above 375. The pellet bridging issue has been resolved for me by removing the wire guard above the auger. That said, all pellet grillls experience some bridging. It’s like a grain Bin. Every year people loose their lives trying to relieve a bridge in a corn grain bin because of bridging. It happens to some degree.
The software/ firmware issues were real issues. They have been largely alleviated and I expect the app to only improve. I have had zero issues since the updates.
The S.F. is a great deal at msrp now that it’s working as designed. It’s a steal at the discount.
I have no negative comments on the others as they are reputable companies and solid products which I have used And continue to use. The SF offers a unique experience with the design in my opinion.
You can’t go too far wrong with any of them.

I agree. I looked at another name brand, Trxxxxxx, as I walked through HD. What you get for the dollar, Weber beats them hands down.

So I purchased A Smokefire EX4 from a local hardware store 6 days before the price drop, I was a little bummed and contacted Weber via Facebook and their website. I finally received a response over the weekend and spoke to them twice yesterday after they called me. Needless to say they are sending me $200 back and honoring the price drop. I had to email them the original sales receipt but a check is on the way. Aside from a delay in their response The customer service experience was great.

Sums it up well, nice job. The other improvement they made was moving from a pressed two piece auger chute with a gasket to a one piece welded chute. I second removing the wire guard, I’ve had zero pellet issues since taking mine out.
